Figuring
out who owns a site is usually very easy. There are a number
of sites that will list the domain owners name, ip address,
and sometimes email and mailing address. There are some cases
when a site owner chooses a private listing which then sets
up a middle man to handle all correspondence with the site owner.
Unfortunately if the owner has chosen to list thier domains
privately that can make them hard to reach because often the
correspondence is going to an email that they really ever look
at. In such cases your better off looking into some of the directories
to see if there has been any listings submitted by the owner.
Often the same site owner who wishes to be unfindable by a who-
is look up, eagerly submits their claim of ownership to various
directories in order to improve their site visability on the
web. In this example we use powersportsdata.com
as a case study since the site has been around for a while
and is actively engaged in business. You can use the search
function of any of these sites to get information about any
specific website you wish to look into. The top two sites on
the left are traditional ip-address look-up sites. Hotfrog offers
name address and telephone info and wikimapia will provide an
actual satellite photo of the location of the owner of the web
site. How's that for spooky?.
